पादपों का वर्गीकरण :-
(A) स्वभाव के आधार पर :-
स्वभाव के आधार पर पुष्पीय पादपों को सामान्यतया निम्न तीन श्रेणीयो में वर्गीकृत किया गया है-
(a) शाक :-
• शाक कोमल तने युक्त छोटे पादप होते है।
• कोमल , हरा (अकाष्टीय तना )
ये (i) एकवर्षीय - जैसे सरसो
(ii) द्विवर्षीय - जैसे मूली
(iii) बहुवर्षीय - जैसे केना प्रकार के हो सकते हैं।
(b) क्षुप :-
क्षुप मध्यम आकार के बहुवर्षीय काष्ठीय पादप होते है जिनमें आधार से अत्याधिक शाखन होता है और ये झाड़ी जैसे दिखाई देते हैं
जैसे - गुडहल , कैपेरिस डेसीडुआ आदि ।
(c) वृक्ष :-
एक वृक्ष में मजबूत और काष्ठीय तना होता है जिससे भूमि के कुछ ऊपर से शाखाये निकलती है।
जैसे- आम ।
शाखन के आधार पर वृक्ष को निम्न श्रेणीयों में वर्गीकृत किया गया है-
(i) पुच्छी / (Caudex) :-
इनका तना अशाखित होता है और इनके शीर्ष पर प्राय पत्तियों का मुकुट पाया जाता है।
जैसे - खजूर, नारियल आदि।
(ii) बहिंवृद्धि (Excurrent) :-
इनमें मुख्य तने से शाखाये अग्राभिसारी क्रम में उत्पन्न होती है और यह शंकु जैसे दिखाई देते है।
जैसे - पाइनस
(iii) लीनॉक्ष (Decurrent/Deliquescent) :-
पार्श्व शाखाओं की वृद्धि से मुख्य तना गुंबद जैसी आकृती का दिखाई देता हैं।
जैसे- बरगद (Ficus bengalensis),
पीपल (Ficus religiosa)
(iv) कल्प (Culm) :-
इनके तने में खोंखले पर्व और ठोस पर्व संधियाँ पायी जाती है।
जैसे :- बांस आदि।

Classification of plants :-
(A) On the basis of nature :-
On the basis of nature, flowering plants are generally classified into the following three categories-
(a) Herbs :-
• Herbs are small plants with tender stems.
• Tender, green (aerial stem)
These are
(i) Annual - like Mustard
(ii) Biennial - like Radish
(iii) Perennials - like can be of banana type.
(b) Small :-
small to medium sized perennial woody plants with extensive branching from the base and a bushy appearance
like - Hibiscus, Caperis decidua etc.
(c) Tree :-
A tree has a strong and woody stem from which branches emerge from above the ground.
Like- mango.
On the basis of branching, the tree is classified into the following categories-
(i) Caudex :-
Their stem is unbranched and a crown of leaves is often found on their top.
For example - dates, coconut etc.
(ii) Excurrent :-
these, the branches are produced from the main stem in forward-facing order and they appear like cones.
eg - Pinus
(iii) Lenox (Decurrent/Deliquescent) :-
The growth of lateral branches gives the appearance of a dome-like shape to the main stem.
Like- Banyan (Ficus bengalensis),
Peepal (Ficus religiosa)
(iv) Culm :-
Hollow nodes and solid nodes are found in their stem.
Like :- Bamboo etc.
