मूल के कार्य (Functions of root) :-

• पादप को मृदा में स्थिर करना तथा मृदा को बांधना।

• मृदा से जल और खनिज लवणों का अवशोषण करना।

• खाद्य पदार्थों का संचय करना तथा पादप वृद्धि नियामकों का संश्लेषण करना।

* कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बिन्दु (Some special point) :-

• मूल विहिन पादप (Rootless plants ):- 

(i) युट्रिकुलेरिया (ii) वुल्फिया

• पादप जिनमें अल्पविकसित मूल तंत्र पाया जाता है :- 

(i) हाइड्रिला (ii) सिरेटोफिल्लम

• ग्रंथिल जड़ / गुलिकीय मूल (Nodulated root) :- लेग्युम में (फाबेसी = पेपिलियोनेटी जैसे- पाइसम स्टाइवम, साइसर एरिटिनियम) जड़ों पर अनियमित रूप से थोड़े-थोड़े अन्तराल पर गोलाकार संरचनाएँ पायी जाती है जिन्हें गुलिकायें (nodules / tubercals) कहते है। 

• इन गुलिकाओं में नाइट्रोजन स्थिरीकारी राइजोबियम वंश के जीवाणु पाये जाते हैं। 

•लेग्युम तथा जीवाणु दोनों को इस सम्बन्ध में लाभ होता है और यह सहजीवी संबंध कहलाता है। 

• इस कारण लेग्युम पादपों में प्रोटीन अधिकता में पाया जाता है तथा ये फसल चक्रण में प्रयुक्त किये जाते हैं।

English Translation 

Functions of root :-

• Stabilizing the plant in the soil and binding the soil.

• Absorption of water and mineral salts from the soil.

• Food storage and synthesis of plant growth regulators.

* Some important points (Some special point)-

• Rootless plants :-

(i) Utricularia (ii) Wolfia

• Plants in which rudimentary root system is found :-

(i) Hydrilla (ii) Ceratophyllum

• Nodulated root :- In Legumes (Fabaceae = Papilioneti e.g. Pisum stivum, Cicer aritinium) roots have irregularly spaced spherical structures called nodules / tubercals.

• Nitrogen fixing rhizobium bacteria are found in these balls.

• Both the legume and the bacteria are benefited in this relationship and this is called a symbiotic relationship.

• For this reason, protein is found in abundance in leguminous plants and they are used in crop rotation.
